Up In The Mountains
In the performance Up in the mountains, there is one performer telling a story in a language no one understands.
With words, song, gestures and a video projection of some cows, the storyteller recreates the story of a worldwide well-known fairy tale.

Up in the Mountains is a co-production between Dieserud/Lindgren and Teater Innlandet. It had premiere at May 7th 2011 in Hamar, Norway.
There are two-three shows each day. Set-up time 3 hours/ rig-down 2 hour. Two persons on tour. The production has been shown 225 times and has toured Norway, Sweden, The Faroe Islands, Greece and England. Together more than 50 venues.

Magic for the little ones
“Kids nowadays” are not known for being easy to please, but Teater Innlandet’s children’s performance captivated its audience.
Høyt oppe i fjellet is a co-production between Teater Innlandet, and Hanne Dieserud and Christina Lindgren in collaboration with the composer Maja Ratkje. The company has previously toured for Riksteatret with the baby opera Korall, korall, which played for full houses across the country. Now, as then, the target group is children ages 0 – 3.
Secret language
The café stage at Gjøvik Kulturhus was Saturday morning transformed into a campground, and in a teepee in the middle of the floor sat an enigmatic female figure. Maybe she was an oriental queen, or a mystical puppet. Maybe she was a visiting storyteller from a land that no one really knows the whereabouts of, yet where everyone has been.
She sat in a magnificent dress with bells on her toes, chimes on the wall, Tibetan bells on her chest and a bird in the air. The bird was probably a good friend. With sounds, mimicry and movements, she communicated with the small children.
They sat, with eyes shining like lighted candles and everyone seemed to understand the strange language she spoke.
Equals
Adults and children are seen, to large degree, as equals when Dieserud/Lindgren make art, because there is nothing to be explained or understood. The young and old sit together on the floor, in a circle around the “stage”, invited into an intimate sphere where the world outside is put on hold for a moment. All senses are activated in a balanced way, in a comfortable tempo. The children have time to experience the impressions and follow the movements.
Training attention
Most people who are around children daily know that it can be an art to capture their attention and hold it. Especially when several children and adults are gathered in a small space. One minute is long. Here, everyone sat as still as mice for a whole twenty minutes. That cannot be called anything else but success. Thanks to actress Dieserud’s ability to be focused and present, and concentrated on one thing at a time, the children were able to enter the abstract and unknown space that was made. The adults as well.
Babies are perhaps a new target group for the performing arts, but they have definitely become a target group in other areas as well. The exciting step from being an audience member, to being invited to go on stage to create sounds yourself, and play with the set and props after the performance, is more than TV can offer.
